What is tracheal intubation mainly used for?
Tracheal intubation is mainly used to assist patients in breathing, relieve airway obstruction, and extract airway secretions. When a patient needs to undergo general anesthesia surgery, or suddenly stops breathing, cannot breathe autonomously, or the airway is compressed, and there is too much secretion in the airway that cannot be cleared on its own, leading to airway obstruction, symptoms such as difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, lip swelling, dizziness, and fatigue may occur. Timely intubation of the airway is necessary to assist breathing and improve hypoxia.
Tracheostomy can also be used to assist breathing and relieve airway obstruction, but this operation requires incision of the patient's skin and trachea, which is a traumatic operation and is generally only performed in emergency situations.
Tracheal intubation is simpler and easier to perform than tracheotomy, avoiding damage to the trachea, reducing trauma to patients, and providing convenient postoperative care with complications
