The use of foley catheters.

Catheterization refers to inserting a catheter into the bladder through the urethra to draw out urine, which can relieve urinary retention, or measure the residual urine volume of the bladder, or inject contrast agents or drugs to help diagnose and treat diseases.

The catheter used in catheterization is required to be sterile. Before use, the front end should be dipped in lubricating oil. The operator should stand on the right side of the patient, wear sterile gloves, disinfect the genital and urethral opening, and slowly insert the catheter into the bladder through the penis or female perineum until urine flows out of the catheter.

The insertion depth of the catheter varies between males and females. Females usually insert 4-6 cm, while males need to insert around 20-22 cm. Once urine flows out, insert 1-2 cm inward, fix the catheter, and connect the drainage bag.
